Basic Needs Initiative

Critical to student success at the CSU, the Basic Needs Initiative takes a holistic look at students’ well-being both inside and outside the classroom, from housing and food security to mental health. We’re working together to find better ways to support our students on their path to graduation.

Queer Student Alliance (QSA)

The Queer Student Alliance strives to provide a supportive atmosphere for queer identified students, faculty, staff, and their allies, as well as to increase awareness and visibility of the queer community and their allies on Sonoma State campus.

The HUB @ SSU

The HUB fosters connection and meaningful conversation to build community within and between cultures, and across different worldviews. Check out the HUB for student groups which offer support for queer and trans/gender expansive students.

Positive Images

Positive Images is a grassroots organization whose mission is to provide support, advocacy and education to Sonoma County's LGBTQIA+ community. We nurture positive self image through creating an affirming environment where everyone can explore their identities, develop leadership skills and participate in building a just and equitable society.

LGBTQ Connections

LGBTQ Connection exists to foster a healthy, diverse and inclusive community, driven by emerging leaders in the rural and suburban north SF Bay Area. (Sonoma County and Napa County)

Pacific Center for Human Growth

As the oldest LGBTQIA+ center in the Bay Area, its mission is to “enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC communities by providing culturally responsive therapy, peer to peer support groups, community outreach services, and facilitated workshops."

Translife Sonoma County

Translife in Sonoma County works to “foster a vibrant, healthy, and responsive community of, for, and by our transgender/gender-nonconforming population, those who love them, and those who serve them”.

VOICES Sonoma

Youth ages 16-24 emancipating out of foster care, group homes, mental health, and probation. Virtual wellness checks, one-on-one case management, groups, benefit application assistance and referrals. Call Tuesday-Friday for information.

The Asexual Visibility and Education Network

AVEN hosts the world's largest online asexual community as well as a large archive of resources on asexuality. AVEN strives to create open, honest discussion about asexuality among sexual and asexual people alike.

Best Colleges Guide for LGBTQIA Students

For prospective college students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or queer (LGBTQ), information and resources (such as scholarships, work, support) regarding finding a college with a supportive learning environment where they can thrive and getting support while in college.

Gender Spectrum

Provides education and support for families with transgender and gender diverse children and youth, and an annual conference for children, youth and families. Comprehensive training for schools and organizations working with children and teens. Training includes education on gender identity and gender expression for teachers, administrators, parents, and students. Guidance to help organizations develop inclusive policy.

Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund

National organization that focuses on civil rights for LGBTQ persons and people with HIV/AIDS, including school-based victimization of LGBTQ youth, through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.

PFLAG

PFLAG envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. PFLAG is the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies.

Point Foundation

Point Foundation serves as the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students, providing scholarship funding, mentorship, leadership training, and community service opportunities.

Transgender Law Center

The Transgender Law Center is the largest American transgender-led civil rights organization in the United States. 

Trans Student Educational Resources

Trans Student Educational Resources is a youth-led organization dedicated to transforming the educational environment for trans and gender non-conforming students through advocacy and empowerment.
